What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Help Desk Intern position at City of New York?
The IT Operations Help Desk is the primary intake for all IT requests, notification of systems issues, and general inquiries. As new systems are developed or business units are added to existing systems, the number of requests increase weekly. The Help Desk receives several hundred requests a week, including password resets, Outlook issues, and general outages. The intern will assist with PC configuration and set up as well as work on PC related issues. Additional duties include assessing and responding to individual issues submitted to IT (ticketing), software resolution, and hardware resolution.
Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology)
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow)
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

- Should be majoring in Computer Science or related field - Team focused, desire to support and help a team succeed - Strong Office 365 skills (Teams, Excel, Word, Bookings, etc.) - Strong customer service and communication skills, ability to identify VIP clients and handle customer complaints - Extremely organized and able to prioritize/triage issues knowledgeably ensuring that SLAs are met, and emergency issues are handled timely - Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities - Strong organization skills including detailed time entry and documentation - Familiar with Windows 10 - Familiar with MS office applications 2010 - Familiar with applications AutoCAD, Visio, etc. - Familiar with General Network knowledge (DNS, TCPIP, Printer configuration, etc.) - Familiar with Asset Management protocols - PC knowledge for basic connections and system replacements - Be able to move 50 lbs. - Must be able to work well independently, with a team, and across departments - Willing to travel to other offices for critical projects - Willing to participate in on-call rotation for off-hours coverage when needed (nights & weekends) - Punctual and reliable - Always demonstrates professionalism - Strong customer service and communication skills
