- Work Schedule - The schedule consists of Monday- Thursday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. This exempt position is not a remote position and requires in person attendance. The position is also subject to attend and respond to after hour and weekend events.
- Pay considerations – The salary range for this position is $65,391.85 – $104,535.68. Salary offers will be made depending on qualifications and experience.
About The Position
The City is filling two (2) vacancies for this position. We are looking for candidates who possess
excellent writing skills (including experience with speech writing and speaking point creation), strong
research ability and resourcefulness, technical skills related to taking pictures and generating content
for creating social media posts, and a team player who is ready to contribute positively to our team!
The Vacancies Will Support Our
Mayor & Council Office: The assigned PIO in this role will coordinate and implement the City’s communication programs for the Mayor and Council members. This includes speech writing, talking point development, research and coordination, performing complex and sensitive work as the public spokesperson, media liaison and information provider, creating news releases, news conferences and other media events, and coordinating and contributing to the City’s website and publications.
Economic Development Department: The assigned PIO in this role will coordinate and implement the City’s communication programs for the Economic & Government Affairs Department. This includes talking point development, press release creation, event planning and coordination, managing and promoting the public image of the City, performing complex and sensitive work as the public spokesperson, media liaison and information provider, creating news releases, news conferences and other media events, and coordinating and contributing to the City’s website and publications.

Candidate Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or a closely related field; and,
- Minimum of three (3) years recent professional work experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, media coverage or related area.
- Demonstrated experience required in working in a high-profile position dealing with topics under intense public and media scrutiny.
- Or, an equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, media coverage or related area. The City assesses one (1) year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one (1) year of education.
- Fluency in Spanish, both orally and in writing, is preferred.

Selection Process
The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume. The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined):
- An oral board interview with presentation component
- A selection interview
This process may be modified to include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
Appointment may be subject to the successful and timely completion of a post offer pre-employment background investigation and medical/physical examination, including a drug/alcohol test.
