DEFINITION

Position is responsible for performing technical work in connection with the implementation, repairs and support of the City’s IT systems (which include all City departments, Public Safety departments, and the City’s School System).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Troubleshoots and repairs computer hardware, software, printers and related peripherals.
  • Maintains and upgrades computer and network related equipment.Maintains database application systems.
  • Assists in maintaining firewalls, routers, switches and other telecommunications and network security equipment, as directed by senior staff.
  • Provides helpdesk support to City-wide users, servers and workstations, including VoIP stations.
  • Performs Window servers’ administration functions, including managing Active Directory, security and user administration, basic networks’ and systems’ troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with supervisor regarding priorities among service requests from various departments.Sets long-term objectives in consultation with supervisor and in accordance with needs of all City departments.
  • Assists in system operations such as reboots, loading patches and applying updates to servers, workstations, and IT devices.
  • Assists with performance of regular backups and/or ensures backups are successful.
  • Performs similar or related work as required.
  • Supports wireless local area networks, mobile devices, and telecommunications equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school degree, or equivilent and at least one to two years of direct experience in a computer technical or desktop support role or a related position with Windows, client-server, networking and personal computer systems experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, required. An Associate college degree or CompTIA certification preferred.

    Required to have CORI report acceptable to the Police Department.


    Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of more than one current operating system, including Microsoft Windows for client computers and Microsoft Windows for servers. Knowledge of client-server and PC-based systems. Knowledge of Linux Server operating systems. Knowledge of network technologies.

    Abilities: Ability to prioritize IT support requests and to manage several projects simultaneously in a timely fashion; ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Ability to learn new technologies and software quickly and independently without formal training. Ability to create and maintain documentation of the systems supported.

    Skills: Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective written and verbal communications and working relationships with co-workers, department heads, department staff, vendors and others inside and outside the IT Department; organizational skills.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Physical Skills:

    Administrative work is performed in an office setting and requires sitting, standing, and walking. When in the field, it may require some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain or standing or walking most of the work period. Occasionally, work may require lifting heavy objects and carrying them (up to 50 lbs.). There may be a need to stretch and reach to retrieve materials.

    Motor Skills:

    The work may involve assignments requiring the application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination.

    Visual Skills:

    Essential position functions require the ability to view computer screens for extended periods of time. In addition, essential position functions require good close/distant, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.




    MISC. INFORMATION

    One Full-time Vacany: 40 hours per week.

    Grade F; Full Hourly Rate Range: $24.39-$31.99

    Anticipated Hiring Hourly Rate Range: $24.39-$27.59
