What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asst Swim/Dive Team Coaches position at City of Prairie Village?
Nature of Work:
Under general supervision of the Swim Team or Dive Team Head Coach, responsible for conducting a swim or dive program which teaches the correct techniques and prepares participants for competitive meets.
Primary Duties:
- Coaches morning team workouts.
- Completes meet entries.
- Responsible for the set-up of meets, including meet information, computer entries, heat sheets, swim meet operation and results.
- Records team member’s times and updates record board.
- Ensure safety of team members. Develop safety rules and guidelines and monitors swimmers in the pool area to prevent “horse play.”
- Work with team parents to coordinate team and meet responsibilities.
- Project a positive and professional image to parents and the public.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to all emergency situations.
- Mobilize support of the team through recruitment of volunteers
- Performs related work as required and as directed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of sports programs and the principals of recreation programming, leadership and team building.
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer Certificate.
- Must be 16 years of age.
- Competitive swimming or Water Safety Instructor background preferred; coaching experience preferred.
- Must be available and flexible to work various hours during the week and weekend.
