Job Summary
Under general direction and supervision of up-line management is responsible for the general welfare of the police mounts, the stable facility, and the continued smooth operation of the police function carried out by the Mounted Command.
This position is a rotating schedule 2 days 7am-3pm, 2 days 1pm-9pm.
Duties & Responsibilities
Ability to work a swing shift consisting of two days 1 : 00 PM to 9 : 00 PM, followed by two days working 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 00 PM.
The hostler will be required to work weekends and holidays, unless he / she is on scheduled day off, and work callback or overtime when necessary.
- Recognizes and treats minor equine injuries and diseases
- Ability to communicate with and follow recommendations of veterinarians, equine dentists, and blacksmiths.
- Loads and unloads horses from trailers.
- Answers telephone, directs calls, and takes messages.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years’ experience and a working knowledge of the care and feeding of horses.
- Ability to handle hay bales weighing approximately 70 lbs.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job
Training Requirements
Upon Appointment :
- Must demonstrate the ability to drive farm vehicles including, but not limited to, trucks, tractors, and horse trailers within ninety (90) days of appointment.
- Customer Service Training.
- Sexual Harassment, Sensitivity, and Diversity Training.
Sustainment :
- Must maintain a valid state Driver’s License.
- Must maintain the ability to drive farm vehicles including, but not limited to, trucks, tractors, and horse trailers.
The term limited means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
