This position assists in the management and daily operations of the Athletics Program, and aids in the development, coordination, and delivery of athletic and recreational programming. This includes but is not limited to: Athletic field and court rentals, seasonal youth and adult athletic leagues, special events, and administrative work. Programs Assistant will support the Athletic Program in its mission to invite people of all ages to discover the fun of City of Raleigh programs and services that connect people in an open and welcoming environment. This position is considered essential staff and will have both internal and external-facing responsibilities.

Work schedule is approximately 25 hours per week, year-round. This person must be flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs, events, and activities that focus on multi-culturalism, equity and inclusion, and recreation.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries and concerns and assist patrons in person, by email, or over the phone.
  • Plan, develop, and execute age appropriate recreational and cultural lesson plans and itineraries.
  • Assist in facility maintenance and adhere with safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative management tasks such as program registrations and the maintenance of facility and program related files and documents.
  • Prepare outreach materials, press releases, newsletters, educational handouts, and other marketing materials.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with staff at program sites.
  • Complete mandatory training.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience working in a customer service or recreation setting is a plus.
  • This position requires the ability to move frequently and be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual Preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in athletic program management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and RecTrac Software.
