What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Assistant position at City of Redlands?
- Assists with the preparation and processing of timesheets in accordance with established guidelines;
- Receives, researches, evaluates, and inputs payroll changes into applicable computer system;
- Identifies erroneous information and contact appropriate individual(s) to obtain correct information;
- Balances, reconciles, and processes payroll which includes payroll taxes, insurance deductions, union dues, direct deposits, W-4s, adjustments, and/or other related information;
- Assists with preparation of federal and state payroll tax payments and ensures compliance with federal, state and city regulations and procedures;
- Assists with processing of employee garnishments, wage verifications, and other third party requests;
- Prepares and submits payments related to the payroll process including reporting to CalPERS, child support, credit union, and deferred compensation;
- Researches, responds, and resolves various employee inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints;
- Prepares and distributes paystubs to employees;
- Makes suggestions for process improvements; and
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- One year of progressively responsible experience in payroll, tax and insurance deductions and employee customer service;
- Experience in municipal payroll operations and/or experience with CalPERS is desirable.
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Some college units in accounting or a related field. For units obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency is required.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
- Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations;
- Regularly required to talk or hear. Required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
