The City of Riverside’s Finance Department is accepting applications for an Accountant II to fill an existing vacancy in the Accounting Division. This recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.
Under general supervision, an Accountant II will be mainly responsible for maintenance of the City’s capital assets and related note disclosures for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Other duties related to month-end which may include fiscal agent cash reconciliations, petty cash reconciliation, payroll reconciliation, and other duties related to the maintenance and review of fiscal records.

- Maintain general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
- Develop general ledger trial balances; maintain budgetary controls.
- Prepare a variety of financial reports and statements to illustrate financial disbursements and balances.
- Maintain accounting controls of fixed assets.
- Audit cash receipts; check codes and cashier validation numbers.
- Audit receipts of outside organizations, such as motel and hotels for tax verification.
- Audit petty cash and expense statements.
- Coordinate accounting activities with other City departments, divisions and sections.
- Assist in the supervision and training of administrative support staff.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or a closely related field.
Experience: At least one year of professional accounting experience comparable to that of an Accountant I in the City of Riverside (maintenance and review of fiscal records and preparation of financial reports).

Highly Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with reporting of and accounting for capital assets in a government organization including related note disclosures for the ACFR.
- Experience with accounting for debt held with a third-party fiscal agent.
- Experience with month-end closing with a large government organization.
- Experience with OneSolution and advanced Excel skills.
