Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in the implementation, coordination, and continuous review of various community service programs. This individual will work in the Fair Housing Program of the Neighborhood and Housing Services Department. HUD Housing counseling certification preferred within 6 months of employment. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, infectious diseases and unfavorable fumes, vapors and odors. May exercise functional and technical supervision over assigned staff.
This position is a "grant funded" position, therefore, unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

- Performs social work assisting individuals with social service needs.
- Completes housing assessment to determine household needs.
- Completes intakes and determines rental eligibility under HUD funded grants.
- Provides referrals as required.
- Conducts follow-ups as needed with client/family and may at times conduct home visits.
- Participates in Community Outreach via Fairs and Conferences.
- Maintains and documents rental and housing counseling files according to federal guidelines.
- Provides area residents guidance on fair housing and tenant/landlord complaints.
- Conducts housing counseling sessions for groups and 1-on-1 as assigned.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibility as required.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in social service or related experience.
- This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at times be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
- Housing Counselor Certification.
- Fluent in Spanish.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
