The Victim Services Coordinator position will be responsible for day-to-day services provided to Your Safe Place - A Family Justice Center (YSP) clients and will report directly to the YSP Director of Program Development.

Victim Services Coordinator positions conduct client screenings and intakes; answer calls from the public; provide crisis intervention, crisis management, and direct service referrals; develop individualized safety plans and conduct comprehensive needs and danger assessments; coordinate services of community partners; submit email filings of restraining orders and complete related tasks, update database and records; act as confidential advocate for domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking victims during forensic examinations, contact with prosecutors, law enforcement, the courts, and other related agencies; may accompany victims testifying in court proceedings and provide overall support to YSP clients; assist with special events; attend community outreach events as requested; research and identify resources for clients and maintain an up to date YSP resource guide; and perform other duties as assigned.

      NOTES:
  • Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:

4% effective 7/1/24 

2% effective 1/1/25 

5% effective 7/1/25  

  • In addition to the scheduled general wage increases, the following special salary wage increase is also scheduled to take effect for Victim Services Coordinator:    

5% effective 1/1/25

5% effective 1/1/26

  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
  • Victim Services Coordinator positions may require Spanish bilingual communication skills for which an additional $1.40 per hour may be paid.  
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
EXPERIENCE: One year of full-time experience performing crisis intervention for individuals involved in violent, traumatic, or sensitive situations.  Qualifying experience must include ONE of the following:
  1. Screening, evaluating, or identifying individual’s needs.
  2. Providing appropriate assistance or referral.
      NOTES:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Services, Criminal Justice, Health Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology-Victimology, Women & Gender Studies or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
 
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Services, Criminal Justice, Health Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology-Victimology, Women & Gender Studies or closely related field.
  • Experience providing confidential advocacy to crime victims.
  • Licensed domestic violence and/or sexual assault advocate.
  • Experience providing walk-in services and remote services to members of the public.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and providing excellent customer service to a large volume of individuals seeking assistance related to domestic violence, elder abuse, family abuse, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and interact effectively with a broad range of diverse individuals, while exercising excellent judgment, initiative, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to adjust to dynamic situations.
  • Ability to proactively identify organizational and client needs and solutions.

Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report. Certain positions may require additional screening processes, including a polygraph examination and/or background investigation. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins. A positive test result for alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, illegal drugs, or inadequately explained prescription drugs, or misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of pertinent facts in any step of the screening or selection process, may constitute cause for disqualification or termination of employment.
