Historically one of the fastest growing cities in San Diego County, this is an exciting time to be a part of the City of San Marcos. San Marcos is purposefully shaping its emerging community, and as the Senior Civil Engineer in the Land Development Engineering Division, you will help guide that legacy.

The Land Development Engineering Division coordinates the City’s engineering and technical review of private development applications such as subdivions of land, grading, public and private improvements, and site development plans.

HIRING INCENTIVE: San Marcos offers competitive benefits, including a $10,000 Hiring Incentive for the Senior Civil Engineer, payable upon successful completion of a satisfactory 6-month performance evaluation. Please note that this hiring bonus is available exclusively for new hires from outside the organization.

Your Day-to-Day

By collaborating with our dynamic engineering team, the Senior Civil Engineer will facilitate exciting projects such as the City’s new North City downtown and surrounding areas in the University District, the revitalization of San Marcos Boulevard, and an exciting artistic mixed-use development within Marcos Specific Plan area.

You will be working closely with our other Divisions (Traffic, Building, and Planning) as wells as numerous other Divisions and Departments on projects ranging from single family residential to 200-acre commercial, mixed-use, and residential developments. You will utilize your experience for reviews of grading and public improvement plans, subdivision maps, and technical studies such as storm water quality documents, soils reports, drainage studies, traffic impact analyses, and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents regarding entitlement projects and final engineering/construction drawings.

As a key professional in the organization, we’ll depend on your expertise on engineering standards, regulations, City policies, and professional standards of practice. It is expected to operate collaboratively to achieve solutions on engineering issues for projects. You will be a proponent in growing a solution driven and customer service oriented culture within the team and throughout the organization. You will work with applicant/developer teams, residents, external agencies, and City staff from the inception of entitlement process, to development of construction drawings, and into construction.

You will help to organize workload, highlight potential issues, resolve challenging technical issues, and report to the Principal Civil Engineer. An important role as a Senior Civil Engineer is mentoring and cultivating the development of junior staff.
