JOB OPENING
Position: Landfill Operator

Date Available: Immediately

Compensation: Starting $14/hr with consideration given for experience and applicable licenses/certifications. Medical insurance paid 100% for employee with spouse/dependent coverage available for a total of $100/month. TMRS retirement with 2:1 match.

Monthly uniform allowance, paid vacation, sick leave and 16 paid holidays.

Under supervision of the Public Works Director and Public Works Superintendent, the Landfill Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment and other vehicles for the purpose of excavating, processing and compacting landfill waste on a daily basis. Also responsible for the efficient operation and care of assigned equipment. This position will normally operate a track loader, compactor, motor grader, tractor pulled scraper and backhoe in addition to water truck, dump truck and any other necessary equipment.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain the functionality, appearance and safety of the work area or facilities in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
• Excavate and haul cover materials for construction.
• Build, grade and maintain roads and parking areas to maintain appearance and safety.
• Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.
• Keep work location and vehicle in order.
• Resolve customer inquiries.
• Maintain daily cover log book in accordance with TCEQ requirements.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Job is performed primarily in a vehicle and in outdoor environments with frequent exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme weather conditions, and close proximity to potential hazards. Position requires but is not limited to the following abilities: Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time; regularly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move items weighing up to 100 pounds; seeing, speaking, and hearing necessary to issue and follow oral and written instructions; working in confined spaces; working at elevated heights; climbing, reaching above shoulder level, using hand(s) for simple or firm grasping, bending, stooping, kneeling; reading a computer screen; depth perception; color vision.

Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred but will train the right candidate.
Must be able and willing to obtain applicable regulatory licenses and certifications as required.
