POSITION SUMMARY
Pages provide courteous and efficient customer service to community members. Pages provide support to library staff and users, primarily through keeping the collection in order, assist with day to day materials operations, and assisting paraprofessional staff with events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist paraprofessional and clerical staff with set-up and tear-down of events, exhibits, and presentations.
- Empty drop box and clear materials from patron account.
- Sort and process deliveries for pickup or shelving.
- Shelve materials and maintain order of collection.
- Locate and prepare items on daily lists.
- Retrieve items from shelves for reports.
- Prepare and execute opening, midday, and/or closing procedures for library.
- Light cleaning and/or picking up litter outdoors.
- Prepare, update, and remove displays of special collections, ensuring item’s catalog location matches shelf location.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Lift, handle, and carry library materials, equipment, and supplies at a minimum of 20 pounds constantly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Constantly stand and exert well-paced mobility for periods up to five (5) hours in length.
- Bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and squat on a frequent basis to retrieve and shelve library materials.
- See close, distance, peripherally, and have the ability to adjust focus to observe library user behavior and alert management to inappropriate behavior.
- Read a diverse amount of printed and computer material.
- Communicate effectively and listen attentively to library users, coworkers, and management speaking quietly or in hushed tones.
- Coordination necessary to operate computers and office equipment with push-buttons and/or touch screens.
- Coordination necessary to push, pull, or carry materials, carts, and furniture.
- Work hours necessary to operate day-to-day library business. Required to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Work permit required if under 18.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- None. Entry level position.

- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Promote library events and services to the community.

- Counting, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.

- Refer library users to the appropriate staff member for assistance in a fast-paced customer-service environment.

- Complete assigned areas quickly and with attention to detail.
- Identify issues and report to management with suggestions for improvement.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
