On an assigned shift, the Police Officer operates a patrol vehicle or specialized police equipment or walks to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order.
Interviews victims and witnesses and conducts investigations to obtain additional information regarding crimes and violations, which includes collecting evidence and conducting searches.
Responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints; serves warrants, summons, etc.; completes arrest records; investigates licenses.
Participates in the surveillance and detection of persons potentially involved in illegal drug or vice activities.
Makes arrests and testifies in court; prepares incident and various special reports.
Enforces traffic laws; investigates accidents; issues traffic citations.
Provides police escorts, directs traffic; performs residential and commercial security checks.
Participates in a variety of in-service and special training programs.
Responds to and investigates domestic disputes; assists other law enforcement agencies when assigned.
May be assigned to investigations, crime prevention or other technical or special support operation.
Maintains department issued equipment and vehicles.
Communicates with and informs supervisor of important issues or problems encountered during assigned shift.
Participates in police activities in support of community events and promotes community policing for problem solving and developing partnerships.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Special or Additional Duty Assignments:
Each special/additional duty, listed below, is assigned to/performed by one or more police officers and is considered an essential function of that particular position. Serves as K-9 Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO), Welfare Officer, Firearms or Defensive Tactics Instructor, Vehicle or Weapons Maintenance Officer, Records Maintenance Officer, Training Records Officer, and/or Criminal Investigator for major or involved crimes.
