What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator - Sewer position at City of West Plains?
The City of West Plains, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Equipment Operator within its Utilities Department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position consisting of approximately 40 hours per week. Candidate must be able to assist and respond to on-call repairs, emergency and inclement weather operations as needed.
The Equipment Operator performs complex skilled work in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment, including but not limited to, road graders, track hoe, skid steer, track loader, wheel loader, tractors, mowers, dump trucks, flatbeds, water trucks, backhoe, skid loader, mini excavator, and other similar equipment in the construction and/or maintenance, repair, and inspections of sewer collections system. This includes sewer mains, manholes, lift stations, pressure mains, along with cleaning and clearing blockages, and conducting routine maintenance.
This is a physically demanding position working outdoors, exposed to extreme and/or adverse temperatures and weather conditions. Must be able to drive and operate various vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery daily. Requires varying levels of concentration and attention. Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 80 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are those for heavy manual work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Two (2) years related experience performing highly skilled work in heavy equipment operation or one (1) year experience and equipment operator training school certification.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a Missouri Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker, airbrakes, (3) months of placement into the position.
- Successful completion of a background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical evaluation required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- The Equipment Operator has a salary range of $17.06 - $23.79 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
