Description

Tasks:  Provides customer service in person and via telephone; receives payments; responds to complaints, questions and customers; processes new accounts; processes connection/disconnection paperwork; updates and enters information into customer accounts; coordinates meter testing, emergency services and other work as needed with associated city departments; coordinates customer payment assistance with various charitable organizations; enters water consumption data into the billing system both manually and through meter reading devices; performs account maintenance to customer accounts prior to billing; processes water, sewage and sanitation billings for the monthly billing cycles; receives, count, verifies and posts monies received; balances and documents accounts receivable; resolves problems and issues with the direction of the supervisor; provides clerical support and other general accounting related duties as needed.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

• Knowledge of office practices, basic bookkeeping, accounting methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of general office procedures.
• Knowledge of assigned office documents, forms, rules, procedures and regulations.
• Skill in maintaining basic accounting records and report preparation.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
• Skill in application of communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Mental and Physical Abilities:  Mental work efforts involve routine application of basic accounting techniques routine decision-making with some impact of the City’s accounting system.  Physical requirements include the ability to sit for extended periods of time while conducting accounting clerical and data entry work and lifting light (0-25 lbs) materials on occasion. 

Working Conditions:  Work involves a normal office environment with occasional field audits.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Experience equivalent to four (4) years of full time, progressively responsible accounting, bookkeeping or office/customer service work or an associate’s degree in accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Management, or closely related area and one (1) year of full-time experience in related field.  An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted for the above qualification.
