What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASSISTANT HEAD LIFEGUARD position at City of Worcester?
The City of Worcester seeks applicants for Assistant Head Lifeguard in the Department of Public Works and Parks. The Assistant Head Lifeguard is responsible for weekday and weekend shifts at our outdoor pool and beaches. The position will oversee lifeguard operations, supervises lifeguards on duty, watches pool waterfront activities, prevents and addresses dangerous situations, and responds to people in need of aid. Work is performed with relative independence in accordance with standard practices and procedures adapted to departmental requirements with review through regular inspections and reports.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of the activities of lifeguards, swim instructors, gate keepers, and other program providers at pool and/or beach sites to ensure safety protocols are being followed
- Ability to provide basic first aid
- Ability to participation in mandatory in service training is required
- Ability to address issues promptly, advises management of problems, violations, and areas for improvement related to policies and procedures.
- Ability to rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports
- Ability to assist maintenance staff maintain clean and safe facilities, beaches, and equipment
- Ability to monitor and assist swimmers and enforces regulations
- Ability to supervise the safe use of public aquatic facilities by swimmers and patrons
- Ability to enforce safety regulations in a skilled, professional, and friendly manner
- Ability to maintain watchfulness over pool and beaches to prevent dangerous situations
- Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI check
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 16 years of age
- Two (2) years of experience as a Lifeguard
- One (1) year of waterfront experience as a lifeguard
- Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or YMCA Lifeguard Training or equivalent
- Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate in American Red Cross Lifeguard Management or equivalent
- Certification in American Red Cross Waterfront Module
- Certification as an American Red Cross-WSI or equivalent
STARTING SALARY: $18.25 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted
