We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a Recreation Program Coordinator (Gallery and Public Art Coordinator) working with the Department of Parks & Recreation. The ideal candidate will coordinate and manage the Yuma Art Center art gallery exhibitions and gift shop. Will also assists with event scheduling, marketing of events, recruiting artists, exhibit curating and manages contract agreements.
Under basic supervision, this job classification, assists in planning, coordinating and supervising a wide variety of specialized recreation programs to meet the educational, recreational, artistic, cultural, leisure and social needs of the community; performs work according to Parks & Recreation (P&R) department safety and quality standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinates, schedules, and plans specialized programs for the Parks & Recreation (P&R) department; programs include special adult's and children's programs, recreation and skills classes, arts and cultural events, special events, holiday promotions, community activities, and summer programs.
- Performs job duties within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Supervises program participants; enforces rules, regulations and safety precautions at recreation facilities and outdoor venues; monitors program activities, maintains discipline, and assists participants; resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.
- Instructs various arts, crafts, games, and classes; explains the rules and techniques for specific activities; evaluates performance of program participants, and assists with skills improvement.
- Oversees the allocation, use, inventory and maintenance of recreation equipment and materials; manages and coordinates special projects, programs, and events as directed.
- Coordinates and manages art gallery exhibitions and gift shop; assists with event scheduling, marketing of events, recruiting artists, and exhibit curating; manages contract agreements.
- Supervises all areas of concessions; responsible for opening and closing procedures to include daily cash, credit card and check reconciliation; maintains stocks, supplies and inventories; trains staff and ensures cleanliness of the concession facility.
- Answers questions and inquiries, and provides program information to participants and the public; responds to complaints and requests for information within the scope of authority.
- Promotes recreation programs and services to local community agencies and citizen groups.
- Monitors the work of volunteers and staff to verify work quality and the timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities; tracks and processes timesheets, budgets and administrative paperwork.
- Follows and enforces safety rules and regulations to enhance public safety; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Monitors program operations and verifies scheduled events operate smoothly and professionally.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; two years of experience in coordination and management in an arts or gallery environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- State and Federal laws governing the conduct and safety of municipal recreational facilities.
- Rules, regulations and P&R policies for athletic games and sporting competitions.
- State and Federal laws relating to food handling and preparation.
- Arts & Crafts techniques, methods and equipment.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Effective customer service methods and techniques.
Skill in:
- Overseeing and controlling recreation activities and participants.
- Promoting a positive recreation environment, good personal behavior and safety standards.
- Teaching sports and recreation skills, and providing individual instruction.
- Arranging and configuring special event sites and equipment to meet client needs.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Dealing tactfully and courteously with customers, and providing effective and friendly customer service.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, and representatives of regional community service agencies.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. A Yuma County Food Handlers Card will be required for employees working in concession operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at City recreation facilities and venues; must maintain physical standards prescribed by the City; may be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
Salary : $36,767 - $51,426
