Title: Mediation Program Coordinator
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
Oversees and coordinates the operation of the Mediation Program. Recruits, trains, and develops mediators.
Maintains quality control over all mediations performed and agreements reached in Juvenile Court. Work is
performed under the general supervision of the Chief Juvenile Court Officer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does
not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this
classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Reviews and screens cases for appropriateness for mediation; mediates delinquent and status offense cases; staffs mediators for third party petitions for custody.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; addresses employee concerns and problems; counsels, disciplines, and completes employee performance appraisals; recruits, trains, mentors, and issues authorization for new mediators; performs background checks and reference checks on potential mediators.
Contacts victims/complainants to schedule mediation and to screen cases; enters case data into computer; sends mediation notices to parties; produces weekly mediation calendar; schedules mediators; confirms parities and prepares paperwork for mediations; prepares payment vouchers.
Compiles and analyzes statistics; develops and revises forms, documents, and letters.
Describes mediation process to participants.
Develops and revises policies and procedures; develops pilot project to mediate third party petitions for custody.
Attends Steering Committee meetings, various meetings, and training sessions; reads mediation articles.
Coordinates volunteer recognition event.
Refers clients to appropriate agencies.
Monitors mediation agreements.
Updates information on all available programs for youth and families.
Develops fee schedules for mediators.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Makes public speeches on mediation to schools and community groups.
Writes articles for publication.
Meets with judges and program coordinators from other counties; assists with designing similar mediation programs in their county.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training that includes mediation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution Certification as a Registered Mediator required. Completion of general, domestic, and juvenile Mediation and Deprivation Training required.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
