Primary Purpose

To ensure increased student achievement and improved classroom instruction by assisting the Principal in the coordination and administration of various programs of the school within the framework of the philosophy, goals, and policy established by the Board.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas principal certification

Professional Development Appraisal System appraiser certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

Demonstrated ability as an instructional leader

Proven leadership skills

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational skills

Thorough understanding of school operations

Ability to coordinate campus support operations

Experience

Administrative experience preferred

Instructional Leadership Experience Required

Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience

Major Responsibilities And Duties

Instructional Leadership

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of instructional programs.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts as appropriate.
  • Facilitate teacher implementation of concepts and content in all instructional areas.
  • Design, implement and evaluate professional development activities to support the school’s mission.
  • Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes.
  • Collaborate consistently with campus and district personnel to maintain and improve instructional programs and priorities.
  • Assist faculty and staff in identifying, defining, and solving instructional related problems.
  • Serve as lead contact for assessment interventions.
  • Promote the infusion of technology in the learning process.

School Morale

  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members; encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  • Promote a positive, caring learning environment.
  • Promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students; recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and patrons.

School Improvement

  • Participate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Assist the principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to maintain records and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Interpret academic data for the purpose of improving student performance.
  • Identify, apply and monitor research based instructional interventions based on student data to promote school effectiveness.
  • Utilize data-driven decision making in the evaluation and revision of target academic programs.
  • Design and implement instructional programs to support the school’s mission.
  • Promote the recruitment and retention of students into advanced academic programs
  • Promote the growth of advanced academic programming including the needs of gifted and talented students.

Personnel Management

  • Conduct instructional observations, record observations, and conduct conferences with staff that result in diagnostic and prescriptive feedback for growth and improved performance.
  • Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff members.
  • Confer with staff regarding their professional growth, assisting them to develop goals.

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions

  • Comply with federal and state laws, SBOE rules, Board policy, and regulations.

Student Management

  • Implement and monitor activities to ensure successful student transitions.
  • Serve as a liaison for students who are academically at-risk.
  • Interact effectively with students to promote positive attitudes towards school programs.

School and Community Relations

  • Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing goals.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage parent and community involvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal, supervising staff members as assigned.
  • Supervise instructional specialists to affect school improvement.
  • Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
  • Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
  • Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
  • Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
  • Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.
  • Implement effective policy-driven decision making.

Personal Growth and Work Habits

  • Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  • Display proficient levels of technology applications.
