The Controls Engineer is a career-level professional providing engineering technical support, management, and guidance to groups and individuals throughout Cleco’s fleet of over 7,000 MW of power generation at Cleco Power and Cleco Cajun. This position provides assistance and guidance in the decision making processes, monitoring and optimization, maintenance practices, and overall strategies for effectively managing power plant DCS and process control systems. The position provides a support function to the power plants for DCS hardware/software system evolution strategies, process control logic, cybersecurity, and DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) field engineer contract oversight as well as to the Engineering, Construction and Project Management group for DCS System upgrades and replacements. Contributes value (insight based) deliverables, and executes departmental strategies Assists in the development of the 5-year DCS evolution and cybersecurity strategy for the Generation fleet Assists in the review of Generation capital project lists and helps to provide supporting documentation for recommendations in control system upgrades and maintenance Completes specialized or moderately complex processes or activities, requiring some interpretation of practices, and an understanding of policies and programs Assists in providing engineering technical support for Generation related controls projects Reviews process control logic and supports needed modifications Supports DCS and process control network architecture oversight through engineering support, design, and documentation Assists in the development and implementation of cybersecurity best practice policies/protocols for DCS and Operational Technology (OT) control networks including management of Generation cybersecurity roadmap activities Applies engineering principles and practices to identify, analyze, develop solutions related to Generation plant processes and controls Works through diversified procedures and specialized standards and precedents covering many situations Provides general assistance to plant control specialists who perform maintenance on the DCS control system Helps to provide oversight and guidance to DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) resident field engineers Ability to work independently and is highly motivated to complete long term tasks and initiatives Qualifications Required Education, Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum or with NCEES Certification to sit for the FE 5-7 years of related experience Ability to report to the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week Strong knowledge of Distributive Control System (DCS) engineering Working knowledge of communication protocols (i.e. TCP/IP, Modbus, etc) Ability to negotiate and influence with a consultative approach General knowledge of leading practices for their practice area Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job Demonstrated ability to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner Progression to this level is strictly restricted based on critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data. Preferred Skills and Experience: Working knowledge of ABB, GE, Siemens, and/or Foxboro control system platforms Experience in Power Generation controls Working knowledge around cyber security protocols and procedures defined in NERC CIP requirements and also NIST best practice Licenses and Certifications PE Certification Preferred Preferred Location: Pineville, LA Other Possible Locations: Lena, LA, St. Landry, LA, Eunice, LA, Baldwin, LA
