What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recycling Lead position at Clemson University?

Performs advanced and routine recycling duties in the collection, sorting, processing and disposing of solid waste and recycled materials to support a safe and healthy environment for university activity and special events. Provides training and mentorship to less experienced employees. Coordinates and directs the routing activities for all recycling collections to ensure efficient workflow. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:


50% - Essential - Workflow Coordination: Plans, organizes, performs and prioritizes work activities, assigns tasks to workers and allocates equipment and materials to accomplish tasks as it pertains to recycling routes and collections. Collects recyclables from University collection sites on and off campus, such as academic buildings and residence halls. Prepares recyclable materials for market. Assists in maintaining records on types of weights of recycled material. Operates all recycling equipment as necessary.

25% - Essential - Operations and Inspection: Communicates expectations and standards of performance to workers and reviews work to ensure that it was done properly. Plans and conducts periodic inspections of routes, collection areas on campus and ensures collection points are properly organized and well kept.

15% - Essential - Training and Mentorship: Oversees training of new and existing staff. Ensure all staff members have proper PPE and have completed all training procedures. Ensures subordinates understand and are able to operate equipment. Completes training for Compost Operations and SC DHEC Recycling Education Course.

10% - Essential - Safety: Follows established safety procedures including proper equipment calibration, PPE requirements, and equipment maintenance. Cleans equipment and vehicles. Notify supervisor of needed repairs to vehicles and equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


Education - Associate's Degree - APPA Supervisor's Toolkit, forklift, heavy equipment; 1 year of Supervisor Experience or 2 years trade experience.
Licenses - Driver's License Class D normal < 26,000

WORK SCHEDULE:


Work Schedule Monday - Friday 6am - 2pm, some weekends required. Standard Hours: 40
Expected Salary Range: ($ 31,561.00 - $32,000.00)

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL


Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
