Paralegal III –CC Mercy Medical Center
Job Summary:
Performs paralegal duties under direction of Legal Counsel. May work with minimal supervision on matters of any degree of complexity.
Job Responsibilities:
Performs paralegal duties including reviewing and analyzing various legal documents; drafting routine legal documents.
Review and revise contracts for approval by attorneys in the Law Department for a variety of transactions that may include but would not be limited to physician contracts, information technology, licensing agreements, consulting and staffing agreements.
Ensures that both electronic and hard files are properly maintained and that accurate information is entered in the appropriate databases.
Compiles information concerning pertinent issues and prepares written summaries, statistics, charts and/or graphs that clearly detail the findings.
Interacts professionally with internal and external entities, including government agencies, expert witnesses, corporations and law firms to gather information or data.
Performs legal, factual and legislative research to identify issues.
Organizes, develops or maintains departmental informational databases
Assists in special projects and performs other paralegal duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or certificate of completion of an accredited paralegal program.
Certifications:
Certificate of completion of an accredited paralegal program preferred.
Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to organize, prioritize and complete tasks within time restraints.
Teamwork, communication skills and strong attention to detail are necessary to complete required tasks.
Strong organizational, communication and teamwork skills preferred.
Significant understanding of legal process, court systems, rules of procedure, familiarity with legal terms and concepts of general and business litigation.
Significant knowledge and experience in discovery aspects of litigation in order to be to be able to function independently and perform initial review, drafting and analysis. Demonstrate ability to utilize, create or establish procedures to be able to organize, coordinate and retrieve documents from internal sources.
Ability to interact with outside entities, such as outside law firms, attorneys, government agencies, expert witnesses, corporations and outside counsel to gather information.
Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills a must.
Ability to perform systems maintenance/computer skills.
Candidate must also have the ability to manage a diverse load of responsibilities
Work Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years Paralegal experience in a law firm, health care system or corporate legal department.
Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations to attend meetings.
Must have normal or corrected vision to normal range and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
