General Definition of Work
Performs administrative support work receiving and processing customer utility payments, preparing disconnect and reconnect lists, entering data into computer system, assisting the public, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Customer Service Director.

Essential Functions
Receives and processes payments for utility bills; balances daily cash drawer and verifies accuracy.
Receives and processes applications for new service and water service tap requests.
Answers telephone; receives and responds to customer inquiries or complaints regarding utility bills in person or via telephone.
Calls in locates and maintenance calls; processes work orders.
Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail.
Enters a variety of data into computer system.
Prepares service disconnect and reconnect lists.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of clerical and accounting terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; general knowledge of utility service connection and termination procedures and customer billing, collecting, and adjusting methods and procedures; general knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to follow detailed work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, associates, department heads, supervisors, and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in customer service, collections operations involving public contact, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
