Pharmacy Technician/Assistant
Purpose:
The purpose of the job is to be a supportive or ancillary personnel (non-pharmacists) that shall work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Non-pharmacists shall provide only nonjudgmental services.
Qualification:
- All non-pharmacist personnel must possess certain demonstrated abilities and an adequate knowledge base, understanding and level of proficiency to assure all pharmacy services are met efficiently.
- Possess a high school diploma or certificate of equivalency.
- At least one year of previous work experience (related experience preferred). To be qualified to assist in the compounding and dispensing of drugs, pharmacy technicians must be certified by a nationally accredited pharmacy technician program and be licensed by SED (Education Law Article 137-A).
Duties:
Non-Pharmacists shall not be assigned duties or responsibilities that by law or regulation must be performed only by a pharmacist. Duties and responsibilities of non-pharmacist shall be consistent with education and training. These duties and responsibilities shall include, but not limited to:
Distributing stock supplies to patient care areas.
Resolving discrepancies and troubleshooting other automated dispensing machine related issues.
Maintaining inventories of drug supplies.
Ordering from approved distributors and manufacturers.
Maintaining proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals.
Monitoring for outdates/drug shortages/medication recalls and communicating this to staff.
Maintaining accurate pharmacy records.
Processing charges for medication accurately and reviewing automated dispensing machine reports to identify missed charges or other potential issues.
Electronic data entry.
Preparing, packaging and labeling drugs as permitted by the laws of this state.
Completing monthly medication area audits thoroughly and efficiently, while monitoring for regulatory requirements and outdates/policy adherence.
Adherence to all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations governing the practice of phannacy as well as Pharmacy Policies and Procedures.
Perform other duties as requested by the Pharmacist on Duty.

Pay: $16.94 - $29.56 per hour
