Climb Lawrence is a 14,000 sq/ft climbing facility with 7,000 sq/ft of bouldering and auto-belay 21’, located in downtown Lawrence KS. The gym opened in January of 2021 and has plans to add a 45’ top rope tower in 2023. Climb Lawrence was built on the values of strength and community. We are driven to create an environment that challenges young, old, new and experienced. Our goal is to provide an inclusive and welcoming space that inspires climbing with relevant programming and activities for the community of Lawrence and the University of Kansas.
Manager - The manager holds the central role in gym management and works closely with the gym owner, assistant manager, general staff and route setters, marketing staff, outside vendors, community partners, and gym accountant to achieve goals. The manager provides staff with the example of positivity in welcoming members and furthers the establishment of gym culture to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and challenging gym experience.
Responsibilities
Ensure a positive and proactive workplace culture among staff.
Maintain appropriate and efficient hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.
Schedule and Manage staffing schedule through “when I work” software.
Review payroll bi-weekly.
Conduct monthly staff meetings, and quarterly employee evaluations, along with maintaining employee documentation.
Oversee risk mitigation activities including monthly incidence reports.
Periodically review risk mitigation with staff and customers.
Ensure a positive and safe experience for customers.
Foster a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for climbers of all abilities.
Develop community partnerships to promote gym growth.
Consider innovative programming to foster community partnerships.
Participate in marketing activities within the community of Lawrence.
Implement appropriate youth and adult programming to encourage climber achievement.
Oversee route setting to foster climber engagement.
Utilize Kaya software for tracking route setting, climber feedback, and metrics.
Oversee facility/building industrial maintenance and cleaning, filter exchange, etc., to ensure a healthy and appealing customer experience.
Maintain fluency with Approach and other gym-related computer software.
Populate monthly reports with gym metrics using Excel templates.
Application Requirements
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong business and management skills.
2-3 years of business development/management experience.
2-3 years of service industry experience.
2-3 years of climbing gym or fitness gym experience
1-year experience in sales/marketing.
The ideal candidate will have a college degree in business or sports administration with 5 years of gym management experience and business development. The applicant must have a basic understanding of the climbing community and enjoy small team leadership as well as building culture and relationships.
Compensation
Base Salary of $45-60K annually based upon experience and education level.
3 weeks paid vacation/sick time.
