The position


Clyde Companies, Inc. is looking for a Historian with a passion for artifacts and a penchant for organization. Nearing 100 years old, our company has accumulated numerous artifacts, records, photos, and stories, stretching across Utah's history in mining, transportation, infrastructure, politics, and small communities. Before we can write the over-arching narrative, we simply need to get everything organized. In this position you will:

  • Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values
  • Lead the organization and documentation of Clyde Companies, Inc. history in an accurate and detailed manner
  • Locate, evaluate, appraise, assemble, and catalog organizational records and artifacts of historical value and interest to the Clyde Companies
  • Analyze current condition of artifacts and assess adequacy of storage practices and facilities
  • Manage a company history room that includes archives, photographs, printed materials, and artifacts
  • Create, implement, and maintain systems for the proper storage, preservation, care and security of historic records and artifacts
  • Assist in development of a cloud digital archive and identify, prepare, and manage historical materials for digitization
  • Exercise good judgment and complete professional discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling confidential information
  • Perform other duties as required

What makes you successful


A successful Corporate Historian needs to have:

  • Experience in conducting oral interviews
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management Library Science, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in public history such as historical society, archives, academic library, history museum or historic prevention
  • Exceptional organizational, administrative and project management skills
  • Strong research and writing ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication proficiencies
  • Attention to detail and quality
  • Strong grasp of ethical and legal concerns (including copyright) affecting acquisition, management, and access to archival and digital collections
  • Demonstrated competencies or knowledge in the following areas:
  • Interacting with the public
  • Working in team settings
  • Public history projects
  • Records management and practices
  • Federal and state regulations governing corporate archives, special collection libraries or museums
  • Current trends and practices in the management of archive materials
  • Digitization standards for cultural heritage materials
  • Archival work, including knowledge of descriptive standards (Describing Archives: A Content Standard) and experience with differing formats (paper, microform, electronic, artifactual, audiovisual, etc.)
  • Competencies or knowledge in producing social media content a plus
