Summary
Our Driller (Drill Rig Operator) is responsible for directing the Drill Crew, operating the drill and coordinating the work with CME’s project managers and engineers as well as client personnel. The Drill Crew typically consists of the Driller and a Drill Helper. Drill rigs are truck mounted, ATV’s, skid mounted or tripod. The Driller must perform soil and rock sampling in accordance with applicable ASTM standards. Drill techniques consist of drive sampling, hollow stem, drive and wash, spun casing, diamond core drilling, etc. Driller must also install infiltration test casing, groundwater monitoring wells and other types of downhole instrumentation and is also responsible for safe transport of drill rigs to and from sites, for operating in a safe manner and performing routine maintenance.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Demonstrate knowledge of soil and rock classification and industry standard drilling and sampling methodology.
- Advance test borings using various drilling techniques in varying geologic conditions throughout New York State.
- Read and demonstrate understanding of drilling plans and site layout plans, drill instructions and applicable support documents.
- Works with and effectively communicates and provides required documentation and information with Project Managers and Engineers during execution of project work.
- Loads and/or directs loading of appropriate tooling and supplies onto vehicles for designated projects; transports equipment to and from job sites.
- Works in a safe and efficient manner at all times with knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
- Performs preventative maintenance on drill rigs, tooling and support equipment. Basic knowledge of repair skills and welding.
- Excavation of test pits, site clearing, boring layout and acquisition of elevations also required.
- Professionally represents CME at all times.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a drill operator
- Must possess and/or complete the OSHA 10 Hour Safety Course within 30 days of employment
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Availability for overnight travel which may vary from week to week
- A CDL A is highly desired; if currently do not possess one, we would like candidate to obtain a CDL A within 6 months of employment
