Engineering Manager - Crystal Growth

We are seeking an Engineering Manager in our Hillsborough, NJ facility where we grow garnet crystals via CZ & LPE methods for use in the optical isolator industry.  This role will lead and contribute to all Engineering functions for this small, but fast-growing business unit, including process development, production and fabrication.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Experience with leading, planning and execution of large capital projects
• Experience in materials processing, coatings and characterization using electronic, optical and x-ray methods.
• Extensive experience in process characterization and optimization.
• Experience in managing diverse teams to accomplish projects at various scales
• Experience with problem analysis and resolution
• Able to develop long-term plans, programs and goals, to evaluate work accomplishments and provide effective feedback
• Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others
• Ability to recommend and implement improvements
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)

Education & Experience

• Masters in  Chemistry, Materials Science, Solid State Physics or Semiconductor Device Physics
• At least 15 years of relevant industrial experience on the technology of semiconductor, electronic or optoelectronic materials and devices.
• Seven (7) years of people management experience for multiple teams. 

Skills

• Knowledge of design and implementation of anti-reflection coatings for optical materials, fabrication of optical crystals, vacuum equipment, cleaning technologies.
• Extensive hands-on experience with statistical process control tools used for the process characterization, including failure and error analysis. 
• Knowledge of statistical tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE) or similar. 
• Fluency with scientific tools used for data analysis
• Experience with new product development and implementation preferred
• Ability to handle multiple priorities involving external and internal priorities
• Ability to work with employees and customers in a multi-cultural, global team environment
• Handle special assignments promptly and professionally
• Set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and competency

Working Conditions

• Factory environment. which includes equipment in an open floor setting and in a cleanroom environment.   All locations are temperature and humidity controlled. 

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards.  This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.

Managers will ensure their team adheres to all Site and Corporate safety and environmental procedures and policies. They will ensure that risk assessments are performed and that proper training, work instructions and PPE is provided.
