Job Summary

Directs and coordinates activities related to production and delivery of aggregate products, including safety, compliance, and quality control. This role has a strong emphasis on safe and professional operations management, including budgeting and forecasting, labor & equipment utilization, capital planning, preventative maintenance, and ensuring manufacturing standard processes and tools are fully applied across the market area. Ensures Simon is viewed as a valued member of the local communities in which it operates. Works closely and effectively with safety, environmental, sales, quality control, human resources, and accounting personnel.

Main Responsibilities

  • Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company’s core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
  • Ensure that all processes and equipment meet or exceed applicable OSHA, MSHA, and Simon safety guidelines. Continuously pursue a culture of Safety and effectively engage employees to reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Work closely with plant management to develop a professional approach to operations management, including professional and ethical conduct. Lead monthly operational employee meetings to review safety, business performance, company initiatives, standard processes, employee recognition, etc. Coordinate with HR to select, hire, train and handle performance issues, while focusing on continual development of team members. Responsible for coordinating performance reviews and making merit and bonus recommendations.
  • Establish the environment as a priority in operations management and act as a steward to the environment and the community. Reinforce the need to meet or exceed environmental compliance among personnel.
  • Develops strong customer relationships and uses continuous feedback to improve products and services. Acts with the customer's best interests in mind, and gains and maintains customer trust and respect.
  • Develop an operational strategy for the market area. Identify operational deficiencies and areas of opportunity based on detailed processes. Optimize fixed and mobile equipment utilization, and plant personnel, while ensuring customer satisfaction through excellence in quality, production, and delivery.
  • Ensure accurate processes and tools are applied to plan operational activities, including but not limited to maintenance programs (i.e. preventative maintenance, winter shutdown), capital planning, process reviews, and performance planning/budgeting & forecasting, asset utilization, and inventory management.
  • Work with team to analyze capital needs and prepare appropriate requests for capital consistent with Simon guidelines.

Main Responsibilities Cont.

  • Ensure that key operational data are reviewed and analyzed monthly (i.e. cost items, KPI reports). Track progress against action plans and critical metrics. Investigate variances and ensure corrective actions are established and implemented.
  • Maintain and promote a consistent and professional image in all operations, including housekeeping, storage, equipment condition, property entrance, signage, and buildings.
  • May participate in industry associations as a Simon representative, promoting Simon’s interests and participation.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or similar field preferred
  • Valid drivers’ license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; commercial license a plus

Skills

  • Five to ten years prior experience in aggregate production operations with related knowledge of civil construction
  • Three to five years prior experience leading and developing people
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations governed by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, including OSHA/MSHA, DEQ, and DOT
  • Proven financial and business knowledge
  • Aggregate materials product and production knowledge
  • Self-directed, goal-oriented, and highly motivated, requiring minimal direct guidance
  • Ability to lead and empower others; proven success supervising and leading teams
  • Ability to effectively handle time and multiple priorities efficiently, while performing well in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to problem-solve while encouraging collaboration, conversation, and trust of their peers
  • Ability to effectively cope with change, and handle risk and uncertainty
  • Ability to manage time efficiently
  • Proficient digital literacy, including use of MS Office products

Physical Requirements

  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), as required by company safety guidelines
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to Stand/work on feet for long periods, and walk across uneven terrain
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods at a desk using a computer
  • Frequent work in close proximity to heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
  • Frequent exposure to typical industrial/construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions; work conducted from an office setting and directly in the field
  • Travel, including overnight stays away from home may be required
  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation*: $100,000 - $125,000 DOE
  • Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual’s qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
Benefits: All full-time salary employees are eligible to participate in Simon benefits as defined in plan documents. Available benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, term life insurance, supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, 401K with company match, short and long-term disability, flexible spending plan, and education assistance. Other benefits include eight paid holidays, and access to available company discounts.
