Scientific Associate II
This role would be part of a small but wildly creative team. The manager is seeking a dynamic individual who thinks outside of the box and works well in a creative group environment.
Under the supervision of senior-level scientists, conducts research and development activities to invent/improve
novel drug delivery systems and associated manufacturing processes, with a focus on dermal and transdermal
drug delivery. Applies an in-depth understanding of relevant scientific principles to design and execute
experiments. Thoroughly documents results in laboratory notebooks and communicates results through
the authorship of technical memos, reports, and presentations. Authors' Records of Invention and documentation to
build Allergan’s patent estate. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies and ensures compliance with all
Allergan corporate and Environmental Health & Safety requirements. Participates/contributes to the project and
departmental meetings as required.
1. Following all established procedures and protocols, and working
both collaboratively and independently plans and performs
laboratory experiments to develop new drug delivery systems and
associated manufacturing processes that are scalable and robust.
Provides online quality control checks throughout manufacturing,
and may design and implement quality control procedures.
2. Performs characterization on intermediates and finished dosage
forms, and interprets data using basic statistical methods and
software.
3. Documents results in a timely fashion in laboratory notebooks and
technical reports, memos, and presentations. May draft records of
the invention and patent applications. May contribute to the authorship of
regulatory documentation.
4. Sources process materials and designs, prototypes, and
implements manufacturing tools and machinery.
Maintains manufacturing equipment.
5. May attend seminars and scientific meetings as required. May contribute to the evaluation
of external technologies and vendors as needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
0-2 years experience in academia or industry, preferably with demonstrated success in conducting
pharmaceutical research and development activities.

- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and computers, as appropriate to the individual
laboratory.
- Demonstrates a command of relevant scientific principles and strong analytical skills, including
polymer physicochemical properties and characterization, and pharmaceutical dosage form
design, manufacture, and characterization to achieve target product attributes and performance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
- Effective verbal communication skills, (both written and oral).
- A strong sense of urgency and ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- A desire and capacity to learn, drive continuous improvement, and develop novel solutions to
problems.

b. Required Skill 2: Microscopy/ analysis instrument use (SEM, Keyence, etc – experience specific to the tool not necessary but familiarity with imaging is necessary)
