What are the responsibilities and job description for the Panel Saw Operator - 3rd Shift position at Columbia Forest Products?
SAFETY
- Position is exposed to several moving gears, belts, drives, etc. Hands or other body parts cannot be placed near moving equipment unless the machine is shut off, the power shut off at the power disconnect, the power disconnect tagged, locked out, and padlocked by each employee involved.
- PPE -Earplugs, safety glasses, and area appropriate gloves must be worn.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
QUALITY
- Position is responsible for the proper cutting of hardwood plywood to the proper dimensions for the spec that is printed on the manufacturing unit ticket.
- The tolerance for this is 1/32” to the listed spec.
- Position will check incoming plywood to make sure of no issues with quality from the previous process and give feedback to that process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Position requires the ability to plan and perform unusual and difficult work and make decisions involving the use of considerable ingenuity.
- Position requires regular work with lightweight materials and occasional work with average weight materials.
- Positions must concentrate mental and visual attention while closely planning and laying out complete work.
Successful candidates must be able to work in various jobs which can include rotating to different job duties. These job duties could include various machine operators, handling material, grading material, quality checks, clean up, and other similar manufacturing activities. This position requires you to follow written and verbal job instructions. Being able to provide feedback and apply critical thinking are other keys to this position. Employees must be able to use personal safety equipment while working in a manufacturing environment that includes moving machinery, fast paced fork lift traffic, machine noise, and a work environment that will vary depending on the time of the year.
