Salary Range:    $21.00 - $34.00 Hourly

Description

Summary: Machinists are required to use milling machines, grinders, lathes and other machine tools in order to produce precision metal parts. They review written blueprints and specifications, calculate where to bore or cut into the work piece, determine speed, and plan the sequence of cutting. These professionals also detect problems by listening for specific noises or excessive vibrations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ability to work to production schedule and due dates

Operating a variety of machines safely and efficiently

Ability to hold tight tolerances ( /- .002)

Basic blueprints reading

Understand and calculate feeds and speeds

  1. Radial drill
  2. Lay-Out
  3. Mold layout
  4. Basic Heat treat functions
  5. Read tape measure within 1/16 of an inch
  6. Broach, keyseater
  7. Read and use gauges correctly & accurately
  8. Clean and deburr or hand grind
  9. Basic inspection department processes
  10. Demonstrates safe crane usage including chain, sling, magnet use rigging for part movement, forklift operation (as needed)

  2. Actively participates in safety programs and complies with all Columbia safety policies
  3. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  4. Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects at one time
  5. Willingness to work extended hours to meet company needs

  7. Displays attention to detail and consistently follows Standard Work Instructions (when available) when completing tasks
  8. Communicates well with peers, supervision, customers, vendors and other departments
  9. Actively participates in Columbia Idea System, 6S, and other CI efforts

Education and/or Experience:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Vocational or technical training preferred
  3. Industrial Math (Clark MATH 085 or equivalent)
  4. Basic Machining Processes (Clark MACH 111 or equivalent)
  5. Pass Self Inspection Certification Test (Reading Gauges)
  6. 2-4 years experience
  7. No written performance issues during the previous 6 months
  8. 12 months at previous level preferred
  9. Minimum of 3.4 on last performance review
