Summary: The Senior Accountant - Consolidation will report to the Accounting Manager and work closely with the Corporate Controller. They will be responsible for general accounting operations ranging from reconciling account balances to performing month-end and year-end closings, with opportunity for growth. On a monthly basis, financial statements are produced and analyzed to identify opportunities for income or expense improvement. This position will perform a variety of accounting tasks, including posting journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis, intercompany eliminations, consolidation, process improvements and other projects. This position will interact with other departments to gather and disseminate information to improve and maintain good communication between departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day accounting activities supporting the accurate and timely closing of general ledgers
  • Perform analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries
  • Interact with key management to gather information, prepare work papers and supporting documentation, and resolve assigned analysis
  • Assist with annual external audit; complete related audit schedules and provide requested field work materials
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly consolidated financial reports, quarterly board meeting slides and CFO memorandums
  • Participate in special projects, including acquisitions, process improvements, system implementations and preparation of departmental reports
  • Prepare monthly commission calculations for approval and payment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision with latitude for independent judgement
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, work papers and reports in both ERP system and shared files in an efficient and organized manner
  • Provide back-up to other accounting staff and cross-train in other accounting areas/activities, as necessary and perform other miscellaneous duties as required
  • Follow internal policies and procedures. Recommend, develop and implement updates related to assigned duties through thorough analysis and best practice research

Knowledge, skills and/or abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, GAAP, cost accounting and financial accounting statements
  • Intermediate Proficiency-Microsoft Office Suite

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management
  • Have skills necessary to create and present information to a variety of audiences

Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Team player and ability to collaborate with other teams in the organization
  • Ability to analyze a process and recommend/implement improvements
  • Ability to create and maintain excellent accounting workpapers
  • Analyze financial data and create reports to inform others of results
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with all business units
  • Intermediate Excel skills (i.e. vlookups, pivot tables etc.) and knowledge of general ledger functions and general accounting procedures

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Experience with inventory/cost accounting and familiarity with a manufacturing environment
  • BS degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred
