Position Summary:
This position directly supervises and coordinates work activities for a three to four-person underground utility construction crew. The foreman role is a working supervisor that requires the ability to operate heavy construction equipment, problem solve and troubleshoot field activity, direct locating activities, and ensure the crew is working and developing skills. This position significantly contributes to efficient productivity, revenue generation, and is directly responsible for the daily, safe operating procedures of each individual crew member.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates and manages the daily work activities for all members of assigned crew
- Reviews job requirements, hazards, safety protocols, and expectations at start of each job and throughout
- Oversee jobs assigned ensuring jobs are completed on time, in a quality manner
- Provides project status updates to leadership team and customers as required
- Serves as the point of contact for emergency calls and deploys teams as necessary to facilitate appropriate emergency response
- Accurately read and interpret construction documents, plan drawings, network plan designs in preparation for each job
- Ensures all required safety training is up to date for self and crew members
- Interface with customer demonstrating the ability to discuss job requirements, foresee potential issues, and troubleshoot problems
- Performs operator and laborer tasks as needed and required
- Responsible for complying with all safety, OSHA, and DOT standards
- Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory and small tools
- Communicates timely with administrative staff for necessary billing tasks
- Follow all administrative processes and procedures
- Protects and keeps company proprietary information confidential
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Requirements:
- Equipment operator or construction management program certification/degree, or the equivalent in training and/or work experience
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated work experience in outside plant operations, 2 years experience in foreman position
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Must have a valid CDL Class A driver’s license
- Previous boring, trenching and plowing experience using Vermeer or Ditch Witch
- Knowledge of Google earth files
- Must possess strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
- Position requires driving between worksites
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs and apps including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Must be able to pass background screening and drug screening
- Some travel may be required
Preferred Knowledge and Experience:
- OSHA 30
This position requires a combination of mobile and sedentary work; frequent standing, climbing, bending, and sitting to perform work frequently in close quarters and in trenches up to 5 feet deep. The worker is required to perform work in a confined space. Crouching and crawling where body agility is emphasized is required on a frequent basis. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment and objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity to perform activities related to reading and computer work, finger dexterity for keyboarding and operating related job equipment and hand tools. Requires ability to lift arms above shoulders. The work environment is frequently loud and requires the employee to work in a variety of weather elements including extreme cold and heat.
