- Job Summary:*
Assumes responsibility for the safe and proper operation of radiological equipment.
- **Essential Functions:*
- Demonstrates Competence And Proficiency With Equipment In Various Locations To Include Emergency Room Surgery Portables C-Arms Fluoroscopy And Tomography In Performing Radiological Exams And Procedures.
- Always identifies self to the patient and verifies patient identity and physician’s order for requested exam. For inpatients always reviews chart to verify physician order and as a result unnecessary patient radiation can be avoided
- Thoroughly explains the procedure to the patient while allowing the opportunity for questions concerning the procedure.
- Always performs exams following protocols established by the Radiologist and as a result views number of views positions and projections will be consistent.
- Always completes each assigned exam to include:
- Continually demonstrates cooperative and good rapport with fellow technologist and staff recognizing the need for excellent communication skills in order for efficient patient service.
- Contributes to positive team spirit and effective teamwork for department and or hospital.
- Continues to recognize that patient flow is critical to the efficient operation of the Imaging Department by consulting with supervisor other techs and fellow staff members in determining priorities of patient flow and as a result patients are not delayed in obtaining their examinations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Delivers Patient Care For All Age Groups While Using Diagnostic Imaging Equipment.
- Always explains the examination and informed consent to the patient as a result the patient is given the opportunity for questions and answers.
- Always provides the physician with pertinent information related to diagnosis and treatment management of the patient such as acting as an agent to obtain medical information through observation and communication to aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment complied with the fact that diagnosis and treatment are outside the scope of practice for the profession.
- Always questions female patients in the childbearing years to the date of the last menstrual period and as a result those patients who could possibly be pregnant can be counseled by their physicians. Use appropriate gonad shielding on all patients of childbearing age.
- Always functions efficiently and effectively demonstrating conduct and attitudes reflecting the profession such as responding to patient’s needs performing task completely and supporting colleagues and associates in providing quality patient care.
- Always provides service to patients without discrimination such as exhibits no prejudice for sex race creed or religion provides service without regard to social or economic status and delivers care unrestricted by concerns for the nature of the disease or illness.
- Always exercises care discretion and judgment in the practice of the profession such as assuming responsibility for professional decisions and assessing situations in order to act in the best interest of the patient.

- Always protects the patient self and others from unnecessary radiation such as performs service with competence and expertise utilizes equipment and accessories to limit radiation to the affected area of the patient and employs techniques and procedures to minimize radiation exposure to self and other members of the health care field.
- Always has lead protective apparel for self and others as a result radiation exposure is minimized or eliminated.
- Always practices technology founded on scientific basis such as utilizes equipment and accessories consistent with the purpose for which it has been designed and employs procedures and techniques appropriately efficiently and effectively.
- Regularly Performs Basic Nursing Functions In Regard To Patient Care.
- Always is prepared to respond to emergency situations while delivering patient care.
- Always has a current CPR card thus is always aware of basic CPR if the situation occurs.
- Rarely fails to document in the patient chart any pertinent notes concerning patient care while in Diagnostic Imaging and as a result patient care is not compromised.
- Always consults with the nursing floor any significant changes in the patients condition while patient is in Diagnostic Imaging as a result the nursing floor will be kept up to date.
- Never fails to utilize the Incident Report Form for any occurrence that happens to the patient other than the norm as a result a written report is created that documents the occurrence.
- Often Performs General Office Duties To Include Answering Phone Scheduling Filing And Maintaining Patient Records.
- Always assures the Diagnostic Imaging patients appropriate information is recorded in the appropriate places such as; Daily Log Book hospital computer system Exam Request and the Film Filing Jacket as a result patient records are accurate.
- Always assures the proper exam and supplies are billed for the patient at the completion of the examination and no less than at the end of their shift.
- Rarely fails to answer a phone if needed as a result service is extended beyond the walls of the department.
- Occasionally file reports and film jacket and as a result our film file room is more efficient.
- Occasionally performs the function of the receptionist at the Inpatient desk when needed and as a result Diagnostic Imaging functions efficiently
- Actively Participates In The Training Of The X-Ray Student.
- Always takes an active interest in the training of the x-ray student assigned to their work area and as a result the x-ray student is better prepared for the job force.
- Rarely fails to help a student who is having difficulty performing a exam and as a result the student does not become discouraged.
- Frequently offers instruction such as film critiques techniques positioning skills and as a result the student broadens their knowledge.
- Recognizes That Continuing Education Is Vital To maintaining And Advancing The Profession.
- Always technically demonstrates competency in current radiology technology and techniques and as a result will continue to grow technically with the profession.

- Qualifications*
- Required Education and Experience:*
- High school diploma or GED
- Required Licensure and Certifications: *
- Register in Diagnostic Radiology through the ARRT
- Current ARRT certification
- Current AHA BLS certification
- Required Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities*:
- Position requires two years of prior experience in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Proven experience in Customer Service.
- Requires advanced technical scientific and professional knowledge as well as a high degree of familiarity and skill with radiologic related equipment.
- Proficient use of a IBM/clone personal computer.
- Ability to follow oral and written communication.
- General knowledge of equipment utilized in the office such as fax machine copy machine telephone and duplicator machine.
- Knowledge and skills required to schedule patients for procedures requiring preparation for testing.
- Must work independently as well as part of a team and must possess strong written and oral English communication and delegation skills.
- Excellent telephone etiquette required.
- Ability to follow oral and written communication.
- Self-starter good organizational skills to ensure effective time management.
- Tact and diplomacy required for working with diverse customers.
- Communicates effectively and accurately with patients physicians physician’s office staff and other health care professionals.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills including arterial draws on all age groups is preferred.
- A high degree of precision and accuracy must be maintained in adhering to close standard and control measurements.
- Preferred Qualifications:*
- ARRT in Mammography or certification eligible
