POSITION SUMMARY
The Accountant will perform accounting, research, analysis and other fiscal services in support of the Assistant Controller, Bursar and Controller, including analyzing and interpreting accounting information, providing timely and accurate financial data and reporting, and recommending action to be taken regarding fiscal matters. This position serves as the primary accountant for the capital asset activities of the College. The accountant will oversee the capital activities from start to finish, working with facilities, procurement and program areas to record and track assets. The accountant will also provide general ledger accounting and invoicing/accounts receivable support for the auxiliary funds and other college receivables.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting Functions, Financial Statements, and Monthly and Year End Close:
  • Review and interpret Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Fiscal Rules, System Policies, Federal Regulations, OMB Circulars, grant agreements, etc. in ensuring accounting transactions are compliant with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Audit accounts, transactions and documentation, troubleshoot and problem solve when abnormalities occur.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly reconciliations including detailed investigation and resolution of any differences and timely preparation of correcting journal entries.
  • Prepare and enter accounting entries and adjustments, including primary responsibility for IET entries from the system office.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all accounting transactions are processed timely for monthly closing, including journal vouchers and other general ledger transactions, monitoring and clearing diagnostic/exception reports, etc.
  • Monthly journal entries allocating expenses such as printing, postage, vehicle charges, internal services, overhead and fee for service to appropriate cost centers.
  • Prepare year-end analysis, schedules, footnotes, state exhibits, and compile documents as requested by auditors.
  • Serve as the primary accountant for the capitalized assets of the college. Ensure controls over fixed assets are operating effectively, including controls over inventory, coordination with and assistance to college departmental staff reviewing assigned capitalized and non-capitalized items, maintenance of inventory management system, posting depreciation, verifying completeness, accuracy, and reconciliation to the general ledger.

General Support and BDM
  • Provide backup support for Fiscal Affairs as needed during peak periods such as month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
  • Ensure integrity of the accounting system by verifying transactions are properly supported and all documents are maintained and archived consistent with document retention policies.
  • Complete special projects, ad hoc assignments, and other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with 24 semester hours in accounting and auditing courses
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Minimum two years' experience with complex account reconciliations
  • Good communication skills, good customer service skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • CPA or CPA candidate or advanced degree in Accounting
  • Prior experience with Banner or Oracle DB environment
  • Prior experience in CORE State Colorado Financial System
  • Experience in education, non-profits, or government





  • SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

    Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary: $60,000.00-$65,000.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
