The Department of Pathology is seeking a Research Assistant to assist with research in the Comparative Pathology Laboratory and Histology Research Laboratory. Duties in the CPL include conducting experimental pathology procedures and techniques involved in animal necropsies, interfacing with Core clients, database entry, organizing the tissue repository, and general laboratory support under the direction of the CPL supervisor. Duties in the HRL include histology techniques such as tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy under the supervision of the HRL Technical Director. This position is 100%-time, 1st shift, Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm.
Duties to include:
- Assists Core Supervisor and Pathologists in the execution of research projects.
- Documents projects, procedures and protocols.
- Performs necropsy procedures.
- Performs procedures in the fields of histology.
- Contributes to the functioning of the laboratory.

Required Qualifications:
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and the ability to apply and translate this knowledge to biological research.
- Experience in handling experimental animal tissues.
- Excellent written and interpersonal verbal communication skills are required.
- Experience in consistently following Standard Operating Procedures.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with necropsy techniques.
- Experience with histology techniques, including sectioning, special stains, and/or immunostaining.
- Consistent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with Office applications, including spreadsheet data using Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work in a high project volume work environment.
- Ability to effectively prioritize projects to meet deadlines consistently.
