Responsibilities
- Manages the claims submission and payment posting:
- Ensures data is formatted, coded and submitted in an accurate and compliant manner.
- Submits claims files to payers and posts payments using Electronic Data Interchange (837p and 835 ERA).
- Monitors payer and clearinghouse submission reports and troubleshoots problems.
- Monitors payer correspondence for updates and information affecting the claims process or reimbursement.
- Ensures claims are submitted within a timely manner.
- Maintains and ensures the integrity of billing and claims related data.
- Claims Data Analysis and Auditing:
- Analyzes claims and billing data to identify trends and examine claim denial issues.
- Works claims denials to recoup payment.
- Designs efficient revenue cycle workflows to achieve optimum reimbursement and minimize denials.
- Performs periodic quality and compliance audits.
- Payer Management:
- Works with Insurers, Governmental Agencies, and all other funding sources to establish and maintain new and existing revenue sources.
- Identifies and implements coding and submission requirements of individual payers and funding sources.
- Works with IS/IT to implement appropriate charge capture and documentation methods in the EHR.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of outpatient medical coding required; behavioral health or mental health background strongly preferred.
- Two to four years of experience in billing and coding required, preferably in behavioral health.
- Excellent computer and reporting skills, including proficiency in data set filtering, sorting and grouping using MS Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple applications and records simultaneously while maintaining data integrity.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with an ability to understand and troubleshoot interconnected data and business processes.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and claims/practice management systems.
- Bachelors degree in a related field strongly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of and commitment to ethical billing and coding practices.
- Must be knowledgeable of applicable laws and regulations governing substance abuse treatment facilities and mental health including, but not limited to, HIPAA and Title 42 - Part 2.
