Position Description Summary:

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Human Resources Department. The Manager should have exceptional customer service, be detail oriented and work well independently or as part of an executive team. This position will have management responsibilities, not limited to labor relations, benefits administration, facility safety standards, compliance, payroll, FMLA, workers’ compensation, unemployment, as well as management of the Human Resources Department at the Long Island City, NY facility.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist operations with recruiting requirements and ultimate responsibility in class size and quality, paying special attention to attrition rates.
  • Oversee and manage the new hire orientation process, with focus on compliance of required paperwork and documents, such as I-9, IRS tax forms, etc.
  • Oversee benefits administration and orientation for the Long Island City location
  • Responsible for I-9 compliance and reporting, auditing, and paperwork, attrition, PTO/ESTA calculations, time and attendance, FMLA, PFMLA, personal leaves of absence, STD, LTD, and the like.
  • Responsible for payroll data entry, payroll changes, new hire entry, time and attendance in the ADP system.
  • Ability to assist corporate payroll and benefit departments
  • Responsible for overall unemployment system, managing numbers, internal audits and reporting
  • Responsible for background check process, reviewing to ensure compliance, escalations as required to VP of HR and Operations.
  • Responsible for managing, training and coaching employees in the HR Department
  • Responsible for the maintenance and organization of employment files both operational and medical.
  • Conduct grievance hearings with the Union, providing timely feedback of hearing results, scheduling of hearings, compiling documents for grievances and assist VP of HR with hearing with arbitrations, NLRB claims, and other litigation type claims.
  • Ensure accurate coverage for department office hours, while maintaining budgetary constraints
  • Oversee reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol program
  • Provide assistance to the Executive VP of Operations and/or the VP of Human Resources on special projects and tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five years related experience in Human Resources

· Prior benefits administration

· Prior experience with recruitment and onboarding

· Prior experience with ADP payroll, I-9 and unemployment

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required

· Complete adherence to the confidentiality policy

· Willingness to work flexible hours if necessary; creativity and proactive team approach essential

· Ability to work with all levels of employees including the executive team

· Ability to work independently

· Ability to coach and grow HR Team Members

· PHR or SPHR strongly preferred

Skill Requirements:

Written and Oral Communication Skills

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, must be able to communicate detail to all levels of management and employees. Must possess the ability to draft full policies and procedures.

Computer Literacy

Must have a working knowledge of personal computers and company issued computer programs.

Must grasp the concepts of using the computer for internal and external correspondence as well as viewing and analyzing data.

Must have knowledge and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word office suite.

Must have ADP WorkforceNow experience.

Must have knowledge and proficiency in online recruiting efforts.

Customer Service Skills

Must demonstrate superior customer interaction/customer service skills

Critical Thinking Skills

Must be able to resolve issues and problems brought by reporting employees or employees in general.

Must be able to provide solutions to department problems or roadblocks.

Mathematical Skills

Must have proficiency in basic mathematical skills to complete various reports, analysis and government required documents as assigned

Listening Skills

Must have superior listening skills

Must be Confidential

Must be able to keep confidential information confidential. This is of the utmost importance in the department as well as the organization. All documents, computer screens, text messages, and the like that deal with company information shall be considered confidential.

Flexibility

Must be able to be flexible in regards to work schedule, changing policies and procedures, priorities and the like.

Detail Orientation

Must possess superior attention to detail. Must be able to provide documents to corporate employees without review knowing the information is correct

Problem Resolution Skills

Must possess the ability to resolve labor disputes, employee issues and departmental issues without assistance of management.

Qualifications:

§ 5-7 years progressive HR experience

§ Bachelors in Human Resources or related field

§ Intermediate knowledge of PC applications for word, excel, power point required; experience with ADP

§ Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

§ Must have demonstrated success in managing two or more direct reports

This position requires contact with all levels of employees and therefore requires attention to adherence to the dress code policy, attendance policy, tardiness policy, confidentiality and non-disclosure policy.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
