Connecticut Foodshare is the food bank serving all of our neighbors across the state. Working with a strong network of community-based hunger relief programs, we help provide nutritious food as well as long-term, sustainable solutions to food insecurity. Position Summary:

The Institute for Hunger Research & Solutions at Connecticut Foodshare supports the food bank and the partner program network to transform our charitable food system to end hunger for good in Connecticut. The Institute provides resources, training, and technical assistance to support partner programs to:

  • Increase access to nutritious foods through SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries) implementation nutrition education.
  • Collect feedback and input from neighbors with lived experience with food insecurity and incorporate that information to improve services. 
  • Create meaningful connections to non-food resources and services in the community to increase economic security.
  • Increase access to culturally connected foods through research and neighbor input. 
  • Conduct research, evaluation, and learning activities to understand the impact and areas for improvement in the organization.


The Program Coordinator develops resources and conducts training that offer technical assistance to Connecticut Foodshare staff and the partner network to ensure a holistic, person-centered approach to food assistance in Connecticut. The Program Coordinator supports the implementation of the Institute’s goals. This position reports to the Director of the Institute for Hunger Research & Solutions.


The pay range for this position is $20.03 per hour to $30.04 per hour depending upon experience and qualifications.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct support to partner programs through trainings, technical assistance, and site visits. 
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of presentations and trainings on best practices and evidence-based solutions to the partner network and food bank staff. 
  • Develops tools and resources to share best practices and evidence-based solutions with the partner network and food bank staff.
  • Supports Connecticut Foodshare staff in quality control and reporting using SWAP nutrition ranking system in the food bank’s inventory. 
  • Assists in research and evaluation projects on food insecurity and food assistance program usage in Connecticut including with data collection and report creation. 
  • Supports the Institute to further its priorities and carry out Connecticut Foodshare’s Community Impact Plan. 
  • Periodically represents Connecticut Foodshare at community events and conducts presentations about food insecurity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree with 2 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment OR 4 years of related experience in similar or related function in comparable environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel within Connecticut up to 10 times/month.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Work, or related field with 3 years of related experience in similar or related function OR 5 years of progressively responsible experience in similar or related function.
  • Experience in the realms of food insecurity and the charitable food system.
  • Experience with key aspects of measurement, evaluation, and learning.
  • Experience with following a project from research and development stages to implementation.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
