What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Specialist position at Conroe Independent School District?
The Aquatic Specialist (I) is an introduction to aquatic event and operations level assignment. Successful candidates will assist the Natatorium Coordinator or designee with the responsibility of operating aquatic events and serving when needed as an Aquatic Certified Official in all events sponsored by the CISD Natatorium using appropriate skills in water safety, use and care of swimming activity equipment. Provide support to Swim America Swimming Instructors, in-service training and schedules assignments under the direction of the CISD Natatorium Coordinator. Duties include serving as a lifeguard, coordinating the CISD Natatorium safety program, insuring the safety of students, staff and general public who are using the facilities of the CISD Natatorium.
- Ability to use technology required to perform the job at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.
Assists in upholding and enforcing CISD Natatorium rules, administration regulations, American Red Cross or Swim America guidelines and state / local board policy.
Provide support and assists the Natatorium Coordinator in the organization and administration of all aquatic events and has maintained a thorough knowledge of operating meet software & timing system.
Provides support in the orientation of pool staff to special safety needs required for swimming activity equipment.
Assists with supervision of other district athletic events
Completes other duties as assigned.
Consults positively and effectively with administrators, coaches, community members, and parents.
Demonstrates skill in conflict resolution.
Communicates district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned area to administrators, staff, and community as appropriate.
Monitors activity and produces reports as appropriate or requested.
Develops and encourages programs that maximize the facility’s use.
Assists with life-guards, and other required personnel for special aquatic events.
Provides effective aquatic in-service activities by using district goals, program evaluation, and instructor and administrator input.
Maintains effective communication with campuses, high school swim coaches, outside clubs, and the athletic director.
Contributes in the implementation of policies established by Federal and state law, State Board of Education rules and the local board policy as pertains to the assigned area.
Assists the Natatorium Coordinator in recommending supplies and equipment necessary for the implementation of approved programs and special aquatic events.
Assists the Natatorium Coordinator in the supervision, organization, distribution, and maintenance of materials and equipment as appropriate.
Keeps informed of research, disseminates ideas to other professionals, identifies trends and opportunities and applies this information as appropriate.
Demonstrates steps taken for professional growth.
Observes professional and ethical standards in accordance with teaching and coaching standards and community expectations.
Maintains membership and active participation in professional organizations.
Promotes aquatics programs throughout the community including recreational, learn to swim, fitness, masters, club, and other activities.
Attends regularly.
- Two (2) years Competitive / Parks & Recreation or related experience
Experience with organization and operation of aquatic events
Experience with aquatic competition
This is an introduction to Aquatic operations at the CISD Natatorium. All candidates must be able to interpret routine reports, correspondence, read and comprehend aquatic technical manuals; rule-books have good test-taking skills and an ability to speak effectively before groups.
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, CPR and First Aid Certification, AED
- Experience With Aquatic Competition
- Valid Texas Driver’s License or valid Texas Identification Card
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be able to pass both written and water skills tests
- Must be able to maintain physical fitness and water safety instruction skills
- Must maintain the knowledge and ability to use techniques and skills in water safety and rescues
- Must be able to ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, operating instructions, rule books and procedure manuals
- Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability for test-taking skills
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. There will be occasional district travel, frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Considerable bending, lifting, operating pool equipment, swimming, and computer use is required.
