The Opportunity

Consor is looking for a Roadway Design Engineer that can provide support for the Project Manager on Highway/Roadway projects. Uses advanced engineering techniques to plan projects, establish  project criteria, formulate project parameters including design elements, execute complex features or solutions, and implement procedures for a technical discipline such as bridges/structures, drainage, roadway, traffic, utility, water-wastewater, etc. Evaluates, plans, and conducts work requiring considerable and significant independent judgement, evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features and multidisciplinary teams. Supervises the design and ongoing progress including coordination with the client, public agency officials, subconsultants, and other team members. Leads, coordinates, and reviews the work of less experienced engineers and technical support personnel. Independently applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific technical area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads teams and serves as a technical resource for roadway projects
  • Coordinates overall parameters, criteria, and layouts for typical to complex projects
  • Prepares and reviews moderately complex geometric analyses and calculations
  • Develops and reviews typical to complex alignments, profiles, layouts, and cross-sections
  • Prepares and reviews preliminary and final design drawings, documentation, plans, and reports
  • Develops feasible design alternatives for significant project parameters such as site conditions, ROW easements, conflicts, design standards, costs, etc.
  • Utilizes Open Roads and other advanced technologies in the development of 3D models of project elements
  • Assists project managers with contract/sub-contract agreements.
  • Works on complex projects; contributes to major project subtasks or milestones
  • Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments
  • Coordinates with project manager, other disciplines, and subconsultants
  • Works under the direction of a discipline lead or project manager
  • Receives general direction on key objectives; guidance on unconventional and/or complex problems
  • Guidance on critical issues or new concepts

Required Credentials

  • 3- 10 years of experience in transportation. 
  • BS in Civil Engineering (minimum) and PE Required
  • Advanced oral & written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with an emphasis on quality products
  • Use of personal computers & applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets & timelines
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation &/or Civil 3D
  • Problem solving initiative within assigned tasks
  • Works effectively in team environment & with peers
  • Strong deductive & inductive reasoning skills
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per Consor policy and insurance requirements
  • Perform work safely and follow Consors Safety Manual
  • Near & far vision - Ability to see details at close range and at a distance
  • Speech clarity & recognition – Ability to speak clearly to be understood; Ability to understand the speech of others
  • Strong ethical character
