Overview:
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
The Data Engineer develops, implements and documents data systems that provide the technical solutions to meet specifications and business requirements defined by company objectives to promote effective, efficient, and compliant operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement data models to support business needs
- Maintain inventory of all repositories and systems accessing repositories
- Maintain version controlled data models, code, and related documentation
- Work with ESB development team to define services based on data input or extracted from a repository
- Work with software development teams to refine data models and physical structures to support software applications (in-house and off-the-shelf) and improve performance on a system
- Develop appropriate indexing strategies for a system
- Create user accounts and manage security
- Work collaboratively with other DBAs to define and implement replication across platforms and distributed data integrations
- Work in conjunction with the System Administrators on the installation and maintenance of the database and definition of backup and recovery plans
- Follow quality control procedures and instructions for managing risk and change to any system
- Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization
- Must strictly adhere to safety requirements
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Must maintain company quality and quantity standards
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills and ability to work in collaborative and independent work situations and environments with minimal supervision
- Ability to remain calm and receptive in fast paced situations
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or related field; or equivalent professional experience
- Strong knowledge of databases (Oracle, MS SQL, or jBASE) and data warehouse solutions
- Strong familiarity with database replication, indexing, performance tuning, clustering and stored procedures
- Understanding of metadata and data modeling concepts and tools
- Experience managing cross-functional projects
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage tasks independently; take ownership of responsibilities
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Location: This role is a hybrid position. Candidate must reside within 2 hours via car of the Cook Medical location and is required to work onsite as needed per Manager expectations.
- Works under general office environment conditions
- Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, equipment, etc.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, subject to reasonable accommodation requirements under the ADA
- Requires occasional early morning or late evening teleconferences
- International and domestic travel as required
