Purpose:
Responsible for the handling and cryogenic storage of human tissue while ensuring specimen integrity and accuracy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs inventory functions to include receiving, assessment, storage, transferring, and distribution of frozen human tissue.
- Performs related shipping and receiving functions of frozen human tissue to include serial number verification, package preparation, scanning, courier interaction, tracking of incoming and outgoing shipments, and general follow-up as needed.
- Performs critical monitoring and maintenance on all biorepository related equipment.
- Performs quality control checks on all biorepository equipment based on regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to strict guidelines when handling human tissue and performing inventory management functions.
- 24/7 response to biorepository alert systems with appropriate follow-up action to prevent potential tank failure and loss of specimens. Includes participation in a weekly on-call rotation and must respond to potential issues after hours.
- Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect specimen integrity and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the manager or director of biorepository operations.
- Updates quality management system with related biorepository inventory data functions and activities.
- Collaborates with multiple departments in the Life Sciences team.
- Perform functions in document control system and demonstrate consistent good documentation practices.
- Adheres to strict safety guidelines
- Handles hazardous chemicals (liquid nitrogen) utilizing personal protective equipment and good safety practices.
- Participates in annual cryogenic competency proficiency testing as required.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and projects as required.
- Must be able to routinely lift and carry.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree minimum. Bachelor’s Degree plus 1-2 years related experience in science, laboratory, inventory, or shipping/receiving preferred.
- Ability to speak and write English; ability to write work instructions; communicate effectively and professionally with clients and external contacts; read and comprehend instructions and documents, such as safety rules; and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word & Excel) required.
- Excellent customer service skills; high level of interpersonal skills to interact with peers and management; strong attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Training in the handling of liquid nitrogen.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
