Required for this position:

Candidate must be in nursing school and completed fundamentals or have an EMT, or MA, or phlebotomist credentials

The Nursing Technician role is a very fast paced role requiring strong communication and teamwork skills, regardless of the department you are working in. This is a very hands-on patient care role, and duties will include bed bathing, toileting, changing bedding while patients are in the bed, taking vitals, changing dressings, ambulating patients, and acting as safety attendant for patients. If your candidate has not worked in patient care or the hospital setting previously, ensure awareness of the various levels of acuity the patients they are caring for and the demands of this position.

  • Checking blood sugars
  • Completing patient intakes, medical history, and updating electronic medical record
  • Performing wound care
  • Ambulating patients after surgery
  • Monitoring patient behaviors, safety, and changes in condition
  • Partnering with clinical team to provide excellent patient care
  • Performing patient personal hygiene as well as bed bathing
  • Maintaining a clean safe and sterile patient environment
  • Explaining care instructions to patients and family members

The Nurse Tech role will require 5 days of training in our simulation center and EPIC training with our Nurse Educators. These are pre-scheduled and required classes from 8 a.m. to 5:00 pm. Some days you may be done earlier (education team will inform you one week before start date) These in person classes the first week of employment. Because these classes are prescheduled, you must attend each day. We are unable to reschedule the required dates if you cannot attend. Attendance is compensated.

Job Summary

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.

Essential Functions

  • Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN or Provider, consistent with clinical policies and procedures, and department standard work. Provides input in the development of an individualized plan of care. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members. Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Cleans patient's environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
