Technician III– The Johnson Lab in the Division of Nutritional Sciences Who we are: The Johnson Lab in the Division of Nutritional Sciences seeks a full-time research technician to manage general lab activities, perform mouse husbandry, organize human subjects research, and independently execute molecular biology-based techniques. The Johnson lab studies metabolite-dependent diet-microbiome-host interactions using techniques in genomics, metabolomics, molecular biology, and microbial genetics. The lab has a focus on understanding the importance of metabolite exchange in the establishment of the infant microbiome. What you will do: Under general supervision, the candidate’s laboratory responsibilities will include assisting with germ-free mouse work, performing tissue collection, preparing microbiome samples for genomic and metabolomic analysis, upkeep of lab reagent stocks, and safety management tasks. Administrative duties will include procurement of lab supplies, general lab organization, and the upkeep of freezers and freezer organization. What we are looking for: Job Qualifications: Our ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a lab specializing in either molecular biology, biochemistry, or genomics research. An associate degree with one year of experience is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. We are seeking candidates who can work independently and as part of a team and are self-motivated and curious. Experience with creating sequencing libraries for the Illumina sequencing platform is preferred. Must feel comfortable working with mice. The ideal candidate for this position would be self-motivated, willing to work as a part of a team, and able to engage in multiple projects. There will be continuous learning opportunities, intellectual engagement, and exposure to numerous cutting-edge techniques. The candidate will be expected to work independently after adequate training by the PI and the research team. Job Responsibilities: You will manage general lab activities, perform mouse husbandry, organize human subjects research, and independently execute molecular biology-based techniques. As a critical member of the lab, key responsibilities include: Mouse husbandry Execution of advanced mouse handling procedures (gavage, blood collection, etc.) Coordination of lab procurement needs. Management of lab organization and safety protocols Execution of molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction, PCR, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science. Background knowledge in Biology and Biochemistry. Experience in common computing software platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
