Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Help design, assemble, and troubleshoot high temperature experiments, including electrical, control, and communication subsystems
  • Work with engineering staff and fellow technicians to complete refractory, glass, metal and ceramic testing in a lab environment to support materials and manufacturing development
  • Support lab safety programs to provide a safe working environment
  • Collect experimental data, maintain organized records, and report results to internal customers or engineers
  • Hands-on support to build, repair and maintain high temperature test setups, process machinery, and laboratory equipment

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimated domestic travel at 5% - 10% possible, depending upon specific project assignment.

Required Education and Years of Experience:

  • AAS in Electrical Technology, or similar technical degree
  • 3 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of electrical circuitry and controls including, but not limited to:
    • High voltage and transformer selection/usage
    • SCR power controllers and resistance heating o PLC programming and system integration
    • I/O component communication
  • Ability to build and troubleshoot electrical systems from a wiring diagram
  • Working knowledge of Ohm’s Law
  • Work independently and handle multiple concurrent tasks
  • Capable of monitoring and executing designed experiments
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and characterize process or equipment issues
  • Creative / innovative problem solving
  • Ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures to accomplish a task and help develop SOPs for new testing requirements or to improve workflow.
  • Comfortable working with high temperature samples with the appropriate PPE

  • Technically curious and self-motivated
  • Glass melting experience
  • CAD drafting experience (SolidWorks)
  • Data analysis and interpretation
