Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Help design, assemble, and troubleshoot high temperature experiments, including electrical, control, and communication subsystems
- Work with engineering staff and fellow technicians to complete refractory, glass, metal and ceramic testing in a lab environment to support materials and manufacturing development
- Support lab safety programs to provide a safe working environment
- Collect experimental data, maintain organized records, and report results to internal customers or engineers
- Hands-on support to build, repair and maintain high temperature test setups, process machinery, and laboratory equipment
Travel Requirements:
- Estimated domestic travel at 5% - 10% possible, depending upon specific project assignment.
Required Education and Years of Experience:
- AAS in Electrical Technology, or similar technical degree
- 3 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of electrical circuitry and controls including, but not limited to:
- High voltage and transformer selection/usage
- SCR power controllers and resistance heating o PLC programming and system integration
- I/O component communication
- Ability to build and troubleshoot electrical systems from a wiring diagram
- Working knowledge of Ohm’s Law
- Work independently and handle multiple concurrent tasks
- Capable of monitoring and executing designed experiments
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot and characterize process or equipment issues
- Creative / innovative problem solving
- Ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures to accomplish a task and help develop SOPs for new testing requirements or to improve workflow.
- Comfortable working with high temperature samples with the appropriate PPE
