We have an exciting opportunity for a Controlled Environments Research Associate to join our company at our Johnston, Iowa research facility. This role will primarily assist the Controlled Environments staff supporting the soy insect control and herbicide tolerance trait pipelines. With additional routine duties such as pollinating, transplanting plants, tissue sampling, data collection and handling, along with general greenhouse work.

Responsibilities – What You Will Do:
How will you help us grow? It matters to us, and it matters to you!
- Execution of herbicide applications.
- Prepare chemical solutions for use in workstream pipelines as needed.
- Daily greenhouse plant care, including seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, drenching, harvesting, and seed handling for corn, soybean, wheat and other crops.
- Punch or cut and store small samples of plant tissue and delivery for laboratory analysis. Carefully maintain sample identity for thousands of samples at a time while maintaining proper storage conditions.
- Assist with experiments, collecting data and maintaining records.
- Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks like discarding regulated material, destroying waste, cleaning pots/containers, and cleaning and sanitizing rooms.

Qualifications
Requirements – Who You Are:
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?
- You have your high school diploma/GED.
- You always pay close attention to detail, and carefully follow standard operating and safety/ergonomics protocols.
- You maintain a professional, clean and safe work environment while meeting all compliance standards.
- You have excellent communication skills, a high degree of self-motivation, possess a positive attitude and work well independently as well as a team member with minimal supervision.
- You have good basic computer skills including experience with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), and are willing/able to gain competency with internally developed research software.
- You are willing and able to handle pesticide, stand/sit for long periods of time, lift up to 30 pounds and perform repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen present year-round.
- You are willing and able to work a daytime schedule including weekends and holidays when needed.
Preferences – It Would Be Great If You Have:
- Experience with greenhouse plant care, agronomy, horticulture, gardening, or biology research.
- Interest in agronomic research.
