Summary/Objective:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and producing timely financial reports. Reporting to the Business Administration Manager, this key position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and specific accounting software, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A team player with good organizational skills, the role involves supervising staff, handling diverse accounting tasks, and occasionally lifting items up to 20 pounds. Flexibility and reliability are essential in this dynamic and crucial role for the company’s financial health.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Financial Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintains accurate financial records and systems; ensures timely payment of payables, taxes, and collection of receivables; conducts inventory reconciliations; prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Software and System Utilization: Effectively uses accounting software for recording, storing, and analyzing financial information; includes maintenance of cash flow and line of credit management.
- Audit and Compliance Preparation: Prepares documents for annual financial audits, reviews, and inquiries, including year-end financial statement review, insurance audits, and state or government inquiries; develops and implements accounting controls, policies, and procedures; ensures compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
- Staff Management and Training: Supervises and trains accounting department staff in correct methods and procedures, ensuring work is completed accurately and timely; advises on non-routine reporting transactions.
- Account and Ledger Management: Researches and reconciles bank accounts, ledger accounts; resolves issues in processes; reviews and verifies proper coding of transactions; prepares journal entries and monitors Job Schedule (Work-In-Progress).
- Asset Management: Completes year-end fixed asset reconciliations to detail schedules, including additions, deletions, and depreciation; maintains schedule and payment posting of long-term debt, amortization, and reconciliations.
- Billing and Collections: Prepares job billings according to customer and contract terms; assists in collecting overdue accounts; sends statements as necessary; prepares AIA-type billing for construction contracts in coordination with project managers.
- Team Collaboration and Special Projects: Participates as a member of the support staff; performs special projects as required.
Education Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred; candidates with business degrees will also be considered.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience, preferably in construction accounting.
- Proficiency in MS Office and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise for Contractors 24.0, with at least 5 years of experience using these tools.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proven ability in financial preparation and analysis.
